17th CENTURY SILKWORK BAND SAMPLER by 
MERY COX

Mid to late 17th Century Silkwork band sampler by Mery Cox.

Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass. Stitched over chipboard with board backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. No border. Colours green, blue, pale blue, pale green, light brown, white and cream. Alphabets A-Z in upper case. Signed 'Mery Cox'. No date. Consists of a variety of elaborately worked floral and foliate bands, including 'boxers'.
Condition: Generally Good. Two small holes to the top right corner. A few patchy stains. Minor stitch losses to the signature, a couple of letters of the alphabet and bands. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. The silks remain bright and glossy. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang.
