| Mary Steward 1674 - This English band sampler is worked in a combination of cross stitch, Montenegrin cross, double running, and trellis stitches, and was reproduced from the original sampler, purchased by us at auction in England. On the front of the sampler the colors have faded, but at the back, rich and intense shades of coral, green and blue remain. Motifs include traditional double running stitched acorns, artichokes, oak leaves and carnations, intensely stitched from the top to the bottom selvages of the linen. | |
