The canvaswork piece from which this bell pull was derived is a book cover, and dates to the first quarter of the 17th century. square tent stitched vignettes, reproduced here in the panels of the bell pull covered the book's spine vertically. It seems appropriate that the allegorical figures of Wisdom and Innocence, would decorate the covers of a book. The piece is worked entirely in gros point*. (Gros point refers to a full cross stitch: petit point is a half cross stitch, also called tent stitch.) The kit does not include the edging or the tassel as shown on our model.
