SALLY MORSE CIRCA 1790
This sampler comes from Searsport, Maine, and is typical of so many small American marking samplers that have survived. Made of sturdy unbleached homespun linen and stitched with vegetable-dyed silk, a stylized three-sided strawberry border surrounds alphabets, numerals and an inscription, over a more ambitious floral motif.
