GENNETT CLAPP
An Ohio Sampler
Samplers made in Ohio, once thought to be quite rare, are beginning to re-emerge, with recognizable stylistic features. Gennett Clapp's sampler of 1839, made in Norwich, Ohio, is executed entirely in cross stitch, with an interesting variation: the elongated buildings are worked horizontally over two threads, and vertically over three threads of linen. On 30 count linen, the finished piece will measure approximately 19"x14", and is recommended for any level of needlework skill.
