MARY COTTAM 1814
This English sampler is distinguished by its delicate freehand satin and stem stitched outer border, as well as by the curious scene depicted in the lower register. An elaborate towering brick dovecote with ghostly white doves hovering about it stands beacon beside a large geometric apple-filled basket, and a large grey goat and her kid on the right, beneath a stubby leafy tree. The colors are reproduced from the front of the original, which is in an amazing state of preservation. The kit package includes graphs and instructions for working the border freehand, as was the original, as well as in counted cross stitch.
