Ann Hall

Ann Hall - 1812

This wonderful English sampler has to be an original inspired composition by a very clever young girl with a singular artistic vision! Potbellied cherubs fly trumpeting alongside a doughy, asexual Adam and Eve, beneath whom perch an enormous plumed Bird of Paradise on a gangly stump. A delicately stitched carnation border surrounds all four sides. The lettering style of the alphabet is unusual and very decorative, and the strong color portrayed in our reproduction remained unfaded on the front side of the original sampler. Stitches used are cross and back.
