Another one of our original sampler
designs takes its inspiration from such diverse sources as a
Middle English poem, and early 19th century English and American
pictorial samplers and naive paintings of livestock. The design
begins in autumn, and proceeds along a path signposted with the
four lines of a cryptic early English poem, translated here:
KEEP WELL X (the
10 commandments)
FLEE FROM VII (the 7 deadly sins)
RULE WELL V (your 5 senses)
AND COME TO HEAVEN
We pass through winter,
into spring and summer, and end with the symbolic river of life
flowing across the bottom. |
