THE HUNTSMAN
After an early 18th Century American needlework picture
The design of this piece was inspired by fine examples of early eighteenth
century American and English needlework pictures. A picture like this would have
been stitched as a painting, with great attention to detail, shading, color, and
composition. While the individual elements seem out of scale (the draft horse,
the rider's elongated arm, the attenuated bodies of the animals as well as their
relative size and position), the overall effect is harmonious and idyllic. The
needlework can be stitched in cross stitch over one or two threads of linen.
Over two threads, on 35 count linen, as the model has been stitched, it will
measure approximately 17-1/4" x 13-1/4". Stitched in cross stitch over one
thread of linen, it will measure approximately 8-1/2" x 6-1/2" on 35 count
linen. The kit is supplied with sufficient linen and floss to complete the piece
in cross stitch over two threads of linen.
The frame for this sampler was custom made by Hog River Frames.
