NANCY NURSE 1807
Nancy Nurse was born to Polly James and Rogers Nurse in Danvers, Massachusetts,
on June 19, 1798. Her sampler, stitched in 1807 when she was nine years old, was
worked on a green linsey-woolsey ground unique to samplers made in certain areas
of the United States before 1832. It has a blue-green linen warp, with a
yellow-green wool weft, having an overall dark olive green appearance. The
original sampler is in the collection of the Danvers Historical Society, for
whom this kit was created in celebration of their 100th anniversary.
