LORA TURNER

Lora Turner

Lora Turner's Sampler of 1830 comes from the Hope R. Hacker Sampler Collection in the The Allentown Art Museum, Allentown, Pennsylvania. Certainly of New England origin, a tavern with its sign is pictured at the bottom of the sampler, with a pair of birds in trees. Alphabet and numeral tests cover the top two thirds. Beautiful in its simplicity and balance, it is typical of a young girl's home-made (rather than school-made) sampler.
